Therefore, when we are mentally healthy, we’re happier and better at handling problems and hardships that come our way. Being mentally healthy doesn’t mean we don’t experience any problems! We all experience hardships, but when we are mentally healthy we can overcome obstacles more effectively.   • Go on social distancing walks or picnics with friends, family, and neighbors.

Stay Active

  • Improving our physical well-being also improves our mental and emotional well-being.
  • Try to get 30 minutes of activity each day! This could include going for a walk or run, practicing yoga, or any sort of home workout.
  • Try to incorporate mindfulness exercises, where you bring full awareness to yourself in the present.

Get Plenty of Sleep

  • Getting plenty of sleep allows us to be energized, focused and have more positive feelings.
  • Maintain a consistent sleep cycle.
  • Don’t use your phone or other electronic devices within the hour before you go to sleep.
  • Do relaxing activities before bed to ease your mind, such as taking a bath, reading a book, or listening to soft music.

Participate in Meaningful and Fun Activities

  • It’s important for us to find activities that we enjoy and that give us meaning and purpose.
  • Participate in activities that bring you joy. It can also be fun to try new activities or learn a new skill! Examples include drawing, learning how to play an instrument, gardening, volunteering, and caregiving.

Change the Way You Think

  • The way we think has a huge impact on how we feel.
  • With each situation in your life, try to focus on the positive aspects that come from it, rather than dwelling in the negative ones.
  • Don’t be so hard on yourself. Treat yourself kindly and learn to forgive yourself.
